Mercy For The Children was founded by Jean Bonte and his wife Jean Mcknight. When Jean Bonte, a Haitian-born American, returned to visit Haiti for his father's funeral, he and others were held up at gunpoint when leaving the airport in Port Au Prince. Jean was shot in the arm. A woman traveling with him received a fatal wound.
It was this event that caused the vision of Mercy For The Children to be born. When many were saying not to return to Haiti because it was too dangerous, Jean Bonte knew that the solution to the epidemic of a life of poverty, violence and desperation was to reach the children. So, in 2003, with no financial backing or organizational support, the Bonte's returned to Bizoton, Haiti with a big vision and a lot of love.
Over the last seven years, Mercy For The Children has touched hundreds of Haiti's youngest and most vulnerable citizens. Many have received urgent medical attention; others, food and clothing. Almost 200 children now go to school daily, where they receive an education, clean uniforms, and FOOD. They can take part in programs such as soccer and karate. The most important thing they all receive is HOPE FOR THE FUTURE!
